About
Welcome!
This website was created for fun and learning. It provides short, structured information about dog breeds, grouped according to the classification of the American Kennel Club (AKC) — one of the oldest and most respected dog breed organizations in the world, founded in 1884.
AKC defines breed standards, organizes dog shows and sporting events, and serves as a reliable reference for breeders and dog owners. On this site, breeds are grouped following the same system for easier navigation and comparison.
Currently, the AKC recognizes the following breed groups:
- Sporting Group : Breeds originally developed for hunting and retrieving, known for stamina, intelligence, and cooperation with humans.
- Hound Group : Breeds that hunt by sight or scent. Independent, determined, and often very vocal.
- Working Group : Strong and confident dogs bred for guarding, pulling, rescue work, and other demanding tasks.
- Terrier Group : Energetic and fearless breeds originally used for hunting vermin and small game.
- Toy Group : Small companion dogs, bred mainly for affection and adaptability to city life.
- Non-Sporting Group : A diverse group of breeds with very different sizes, coats, and personalities.
- Herding Group : Intelligent and active dogs bred to control livestock, known for focus and trainability.
- Miscellaneous Class : Breeds that are in the process of gaining full AKC recognition.
- Foundation Stock Service : Rare breeds whose populations are being documented and developed toward official recognition.
